Why is our name Kentucky Mountain Doodles but our location is in Missouri?
Our business, originally named Liberty Pines Doodles after the charming town of Liberty, West Virginia, was founded there during our nine years of happy residency. In 2008, after many wonderful experiences in that community, we decided to relocate to the beautiful and serene eastern Kentucky, where we chose to rename the business in order to honor the rich heritage of the Kentucky mountains that we had come to love. In 2018, Taylor, who is Melisa's daughter and also the co-owner of the business, took charge of the website, customer communication, and training, playing a crucial role in our operations and growth. In 2022, Taylor met her wonderful husband from Cedar Hill, Missouri, which led her to relocate there to build their new home together. In early 2024, Melisa and her husband Terry made the significant decision to sell their Kentucky home so they could be closer to Taylor, ultimately resulting in them living just 22 minutes apart. This was a substantial change after having spent over a year living 6.5 hours away from each other.
While Kentucky Mountain Doodles will see a new name in the future, we will continue to operate under the beloved KMD for the time being.
What we offer…
In Depth House Training
For almost four years now, we've been offering multiple different levels of house training. These options range from introduction to beginning in-house training, to advanced, fully house-trained puppies.
Basic Obedience and Therapy/Service dog Training
We are now offering Pre-Therapy trained puppies, and Service Dog certified young adult dogs. Any of our puppies at our High School level of training or higher have their CGC (Canine Good Citizen) certification.
Transportation Services
Getting your puppy to you will be no issue at all! If you are unable to come pick your puppy up in person, we have two wonderful ground transport teams that can bring puppy right to your door. Both of these companies are fully licensed and insured, with a love for travel and fur babies.
Our Story…
Over 19 years ago, we began our journey by breeding and training Labrador Retrievers, which turned into Labradoodles. This then expanded to include Goldendoodles, Bernedoodles, Aussiedoodles, and Australian Mountain Doodles. We no longer breed Labradoodles, and we only have the occasional Aussiedoodle litter. Being a small family-owned business, we only have a few litters per year, which allows us to keep our main focus on producing the very best, highly trainable, hypoallergenic, and non-shedding puppies. About 90% of our customers want an older, trained puppy/young adult, so our primary focus for the past several years has been to provide our customers with the very best trained new family members.
